Rarely have a high school, a community and a company been as intertwined as Musselman High School, South Berkeley County and the C.H. Musselman Company. The Musselman Apple Plant, located in Inwood, WV, in the 1940’s, was the largest apple processing plant in the world! During that time it became obvious that Bunker Hill High School was an inadequate size for the number of students it served.

The owners of the plant, Mr. & Mrs. C.H. Musselman, wanted the children of their employees to have a bigger and better school so they rented a parcel of land for a minimal fee from the Berkeley County Bd. of Ed. When they no longer wanted to rent the land, they turned it back over to the county with a beautiful one story school located on it! Many of the employees helped in the actual construction of the school which became a “family” and community project!  The new high school was built for 222 students at a cost of a quarter of a million dollars. In September of 1949, Musselman High School opened its doors for the very first time.

To honor the Musselman family and the industry that built the school, the APPLE was chosen as the mascot and so Musselman is proudly called the Musselman Applemen. The school colors are green for the leaves of the tree and white for the fruit of the apple with a “touch of red” being the apple itself!

The original school building was used as the high school until 1998, when the construction of an even larger building was completed just across the street. Both school buildings still bear the Musselman family name.
